A proactive approach to health involves understanding and managing potential risks. Dr. Michael Massoomi provides expert care for a range of conditions, focusing on early detection and effective management to support your long-term wellness. Common areas of focus include:

  • Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation: Paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (PAF) is a type of irregular heartbeat that comes and goes, and catching it early through regular checkups can help prevent serious complications like stroke.
  • Unstable Angina: Because unstable angina indicates a significant blockage in your heart's blood vessels, early detection through regular checkups and attention to risk factors can dramatically lower your chances of severe cardiovascular events.
  • Nonrheumatic Mitral Stenosis: Managing nonrheumatic mitral stenosis focuses on preventing its progression to heart failure and other cardiovascular problems through consistent monitoring and lifestyle changes.
  • Acute Coronary Syndrome: A heart-healthy lifestyle and proactive monitoring of cholesterol and blood pressure are essential for preventing Acute Coronary Syndrome, a sudden reduction in blood flow to the heart.
  • Angina: Experiencing angina is a warning sign that your heart isn't getting enough oxygen, highlighting the need for lifestyle changes and medical management to reduce your risk of serious complications.
  • Venous Hypertension: Venous hypertension, or high blood pressure in your veins, can increase your risk of blood clots and other complications, so it's important to adopt preventative measures to maintain healthy blood flow.
  • Rheumatic Aortic Valve Disorders: Managing rheumatic aortic valve disease involves proactive steps to prevent further damage to your heart's aortic valve and avoid serious complications like heart failure, emphasizing the importance of regular checkups.
  • Pulmonary Insufficiency: Preventing complications from pulmonary insufficiency involves early detection through proactive health screenings and lifestyle adjustments, minimizing the strain on your heart and lungs.
  • Cardiomegaly: Cardiomegaly, or an enlarged heart, can be a sign of underlying heart conditions, making early detection and management crucial for preventing serious complications like heart failure.
  • Atrial Flutter: Managing atrial flutter effectively through medication or other treatments helps lower your risk of blood clots and subsequent strokes, protecting your long-term heart health.
  • Hypertensive Heart with Failure: If you have hypertensive heart disease and heart failure, it signifies that your high blood pressure has severely impacted your heart's function; consistent blood pressure monitoring and treatment are essential to prevent further damage.
  • Coronary Vessel Malformation: Coronary vessel malformations are birth defects affecting the heart's arteries, and early detection through regular checkups can help prevent serious complications later in life.

This list highlights some common health concerns and is for informational purposes only. The best way to understand your personal health and create a prevention plan is to schedule a consultation. Accurate diagnosis and personalized treatment plans are developed based on individual patient evaluations.

Taking proactive steps is central to long-term health. Dr. Michael Massoomi offers a range of key preventive screenings and services designed to provide crucial insights into your health and support your well-being:

  • Insertion of Left Ventricular Lead for Pacemaker or Cardioverter and Defibrillator: To safeguard against life-threatening heart conditions, a small lead is inserted into your heart's left ventricle to accurately detect and address irregular heartbeats.
  • Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement/Implantation (TAVR/TAVI): If you're experiencing symptoms of aortic stenosis, TAVR/TAVI offers a less invasive way to replace your aortic valve, improving your quality of life and reducing your risk of serious heart complications.
  • Cardiovascular Diagnostic Test: Protecting your future starts with a cardiovascular diagnostic test, a simple procedure that can detect early signs of heart disease or stroke, enabling proactive treatment.
  • Removal or Revision of Pacemaker or Cardioverter and-or Defibrillator: Proactive removal or revision of a malfunctioning pacemaker or defibrillator prevents disruptions to your heart rhythm, safeguarding your overall cardiovascular health.
  • Carotid Artery Stent Placement: As a proactive step towards better brain health, a carotid artery stent placement can help alleviate blockages in the arteries supplying blood to your brain, thereby reducing the risk of stroke.
  • Mitral Valve Repair: Ensure optimal heart function for years to come – mitral valve repair corrects valve abnormalities, helping maintain a healthy heartbeat and preventing debilitating conditions.
  • Arrhythmia Screening: Protecting your heart starts with knowing its rhythm: an arrhythmia screening can identify irregularities and allow for timely intervention.
  • Electrocardiogram (EKG): Take charge of your heart health with an EKG—a quick, painless test that screens for irregular heartbeats and other abnormalities that could lead to life-threatening conditions.
  • Impella Device: The Impella device is a temporary heart pump that assists your heart's pumping action during complex heart procedures, helping to reduce risks and improve outcomes.
  • Mitral Valve Surgery: Taking charge of your heart health: mitral valve surgery helps correct a faulty valve, reducing your risk of heart failure and stroke.
  • Nuclear Stress Testing: To take a proactive step toward a healthier heart, a nuclear stress test helps doctors identify areas of reduced blood flow, enabling early diagnosis and prevention of heart disease.
  • Dobutamine Thallium Stress Test: This non-invasive test helps detect coronary artery disease early, allowing for prompt treatment and reducing your risk of a heart attack or stroke.

Here are answers to some common questions about proactive Cardiovascular care with Dr. Michael Massoomi:

What is a Cardiologist, and when should I see one?
A cardiologist is a medical expert specializing in the heart and blood vessels. You should see a cardiologist if you experience symptoms like chest pain or shortness of breath, have a family history of heart disease, or have risk factors like high blood pressure or high cholesterol that need expert management.
What can I expect during my first visit with Dr. Michael Massoomi?
Your first visit with Dr. Massoomi will be a comprehensive cardiovascular assessment. We will review your medical and family history, perform a physical exam, and obtain an EKG. We'll also discuss your lifestyle and risk factors to create a personalized heart health plan for you.
What are the most important things I can do to prevent a heart attack?
Taking control of your cardiovascular health is achievable. Knowing and managing your blood pressure and cholesterol levels, not smoking, regular physical activity, and a heart-healthy diet are key. These steps empower you to significantly reduce your risk of a heart attack.
What is a cardiac ablation procedure?
Cardiac ablation is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat certain types of fast heart rhythms. A specialist uses catheters to locate and eliminate the problematic heart tissue using heat or cold energy, often curing the arrhythmia.
What is a TAVR procedure?
TAVR, or Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement, is a groundbreaking, minimally invasive procedure to replace a narrowed aortic valve. Unlike traditional open-heart surgery, TAVR is performed through a catheter, leading to a much faster recovery for eligible patients.
What is Atrial Fibrillation (AFib), and is it dangerous?
Atrial fibrillation (AFib) is a common type of irregular and often rapid heartbeat. While the rhythm itself isn't usually life-threatening, it significantly increases the risk of stroke. Dr. Massoomi is an expert in managing AFib with medications and procedures to control the rhythm and prevent strokes.
What is heart failure?
Heart failure means the heart isn't pumping blood as efficiently as it should, not that it has stopped working. It's a chronic condition that can be managed with medications and lifestyle changes, and Dr. Massoomi will work with you to improve heart function and reduce symptoms like shortness of breath and swelling.
What is the difference between 'good' (HDL) and 'bad' (LDL) cholesterol?
LDL, or "lousy" cholesterol, builds up plaque in your arteries, potentially leading to blockages. HDL, or "healthy" cholesterol, helps remove LDL from your body. Dr. Massoomi helps manage both to prevent heart disease.
