                                                      • Esophageal Motility Disorders: Esophageal motility disorders affect how your esophagus moves food, and catching them early through regular checkups can prevent serious complications like difficulty swallowing or nutritional deficiencies.
                                                      • Intestinal Diverticulitis: By focusing on preventive measures like a fiber-rich diet and regular exercise, you can significantly lower your chances of developing intestinal diverticulitis and maintain a healthy digestive system.
                                                      • Liver Damage from Alcohol: Alcohol-related liver damage can be serious, but by adopting a preventative approach that includes lifestyle modifications and screenings, you can minimize the risks and protect your liver and digestive well-being.

                                                      • Gastrointestinal Bleeding: Gastrointestinal bleeding, even if minor, needs prompt attention as early detection can prevent serious complications like anemia and shock.
                                                      • Nausea: Managing nausea effectively is crucial for preventing dehydration and nutritional deficiencies, both essential for overall digestive health and preventing future problems.

A gastroenterologist is a specialist doctor who is highly trained in the health of your digestive system, including your esophagus, stomach, intestines, colon, liver, gallbladder, and pancreas. They are experts in diagnosing and treating digestive conditions, and also perform preventive screenings like colonoscopies.
When should I get my first screening colonoscopy?
For average-risk individuals, routine screening colonoscopies are now recommended to begin at age 45. However, individuals with a family history of colon cancer or other risk factors may need to start earlier. Dr. Fleisher will determine the best, personalized screening schedule for you.
What is the role of diet in managing IBS?
Diet plays a crucial role in managing IBS. Dr. Fleisher can help identify trigger foods and recommend dietary approaches, like the low FODMAP diet, to significantly reduce symptoms such as bloating, gas, and abdominal pain.
                                                      What is Celiac Disease?
Celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder where consuming gluten, a protein found in wheat, triggers damage to the small intestine. It's different from a gluten sensitivity, and a proper diagnosis from a gastroenterologist is essential before starting a gluten-free diet.
What is the difference between Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) and Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)?
Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), including Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, is an autoimmune condition causing inflammation and damage to the gastrointestinal tract. Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), on the other hand, is a functional disorder causing symptoms like cramping and bloating without the same physical damage.
I have frequent heartburn. When should I be concerned?
While occasional heartburn is common, frequent or worsening symptoms (more than twice a week) could signal a more serious issue like GERD. Dr. Fleisher can diagnose the cause and create a personalized treatment plan. Untreated GERD can lead to more serious complications.
                                                      What are gallstones?
Gallstones are small, hard deposits that can form in the gallbladder. Many people have them without any problems. They only become a concern if they cause blockages, leading to pain. Dr. Fleisher can help diagnose this issue.

Common signs of liver problems include jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes), persistent fatigue, abdominal swelling, and unexplained dark urine.
