My name is Brad Bruggeman, MD, and I am a clinical assistant professor in the University of Florida Division of Academic Specialists in General Obstetrics and Gynecology. I also serve as the clerkship director for third-year medical students. I am a proud Gator through and through: I completed my undergraduate studies and medical degree jointly at UF as part of the Medical Honors Program, graduating from the UF College of Medicine with honors in research. I also completed my residency training in obstetrics and gynecology at UF. My primary academic focus is squarely within medical education. I teach in several medical student courses and serve on multiple institutional education committees at UF. I have presented my research on the third-year medical student clerkship at numerous national conferences. I am the grateful recipient of the Golden Apple Teaching Award each year since 2015. As a resident, I was awarded UF's Society of Teaching Scholars Outstanding Resident Teacher Award and the department's Resident Educator of the Year Award. I was inducted to the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society in recognition of my commitment to education, and in my final year of residency, I served as education chief resident. My clinical interests include diagnosis and management of cervical dysplasia and pre-cancers, pelvic prolapse and incontinence, laparoscopic and vaginal surgery, and pregnancy care. I am the director of the department's Colposcopy and LEEP clinics, and I am involved in multiple quality improvement and educational projects in this area. As a physician, my goal is to take care of each patient as I would want my wife or mother cared for, striving each day to deliver high-quality care while developing strong patient relationships based on mutual trust and caring. I am interested in global health, spending one week each year performing gynecologic surgery as part of a team of Honduran missionary surgeons. In my free time, I enjoy chasing around my three-year-old daughter, traveling with my wife to the U.S. national parks and around the world, snow skiing and raising backyard chickens.

A proactive approach to health involves understanding and managing potential risks. Dr. Bradley Bruggeman provides expert care for a range of conditions, focusing on early detection and effective management to support your long-term wellness. Common areas of focus include:

  • Cervical Polyps: While usually harmless, cervical polyps can sometimes cause abnormal bleeding or discharge, making regular OB/GYN visits crucial for early identification and management to prevent more serious issues.
  • Eclampsia: Preventing eclampsia, a life-threatening condition causing seizures during pregnancy, relies heavily on proactive blood pressure management and consistent prenatal care.
  • Multiple Gestation: Carrying more than one baby (multiple gestation) increases the risk of complications, so early prenatal care is crucial for a healthy pregnancy.
  • Varicose Veins Genital: While not always serious, genital varicose veins can sometimes indicate more significant health problems. Regular check-ups with your OB/GYN allow for early identification and appropriate management to improve your overall well-being.
  • Vulvar Cancer: Regular self-exams and checkups with your OB/GYN are crucial for early detection of vulvar cancer, significantly improving treatment outcomes and survival rates.
  • High Risk Pregnancy: Recognizing conditions that increase the risk of pregnancy complications enables proactive steps to manage these factors and improve the chances of a healthy pregnancy and delivery.
  • Endometriosis: Managing endometriosis effectively through proactive healthcare can help reduce the risk of long-term complications like infertility and chronic pelvic pain.
  • Postpartum Cardiomyopathy: Regular prenatal and postpartum care, including careful monitoring of your heart function, helps reduce the risk and potential severity of postpartum cardiomyopathy.
  • Dysmenorrhea: Preventing the disruption and distress of severe menstrual cramps begins with recognizing dysmenorrhea and taking steps to address it, improving overall menstrual health and well-being.
  • HPV (Human Papillomavirus): Many HPV infections clear on their own, but some types can lead to cancer if left untreated; getting screened regularly helps catch and treat these infections early.
  • Vaginal Yeast Infection: Preventing recurring vaginal yeast infections involves understanding your risk factors and practicing good hygiene to minimize discomfort and potential long-term health issues.
  • Vaginitis or Vaginosis: Regular OB/GYN visits are crucial for preventing complications from vaginitis and vaginosis, as early detection and treatment minimize the risk of secondary infections and improve your overall reproductive health.

This list highlights some common health concerns and is for informational purposes only. The best way to understand your personal health and create a prevention plan is to schedule a consultation. Accurate diagnosis and personalized treatment plans are developed based on individual patient evaluations.

Taking proactive steps is central to long-term health. Dr. Bradley Bruggeman offers a range of key preventive screenings and services designed to provide crucial insights into your health and support your well-being:

  • Chlamydia Infection Screening: A chlamydia screening is a simple test that can detect a common sexually transmitted infection (STI) early, allowing for prompt treatment to prevent potential long-term health problems.
  • Trichomoniasis Screening: Protecting your reproductive health starts with a trichomoniasis screening, a quick check for an infection that can cause serious issues if left untreated.
  • Pregnancy Non-Stress Test: Taking proactive steps for a healthy pregnancy, a non-stress test allows doctors to check your baby's wellbeing and react to any potential issues.
  • Laparoscopic Hysterectomy: For women experiencing debilitating symptoms from uterine conditions, a laparoscopic hysterectomy offers a less invasive surgical option to remove the uterus and improve quality of life.
  • Colpopexy: As a proactive step in managing pelvic organ prolapse, colpopexy strengthens the supporting tissues to alleviate discomfort and improve bladder or bowel function.
  • Incontinence Sling Procedure: An incontinence sling procedure is a surgical option to proactively address urinary incontinence, helping you regain bladder control and improve your quality of life.
  • Sexually Transmitted Infections Screening: Regular STI screenings help detect infections early, allowing for prompt treatment and preventing long-term health problems.
  • Mammography: Protecting your future starts with a mammogram, a painless imaging test designed to screen for breast cancer and improve your odds of survival.
  • Endometrial Ablation: Endometrial ablation is a procedure designed to reduce heavy menstrual bleeding, thereby preventing complications like anemia and improving your daily life.
  • Pregnancy Test: Proactively managing your reproductive health begins with a pregnancy test, helping you make informed decisions about your body.
  • STD Screening: Protecting your reproductive health is key, and STD screenings are a vital part of that. Early detection through testing helps prevent infertility and other serious health issues.
  • Gonorrhea Screening: Ensure your sexual health is in top shape with a gonorrhea screening. This test helps detect the presence of this infection and facilitates early treatment.
