Hey folks, McGruff here. Welcome to the home of the National Crime Prevention Council's public service announcements (PSAs) also known as the National Citizens' Crime Prevention Campaign.

My friends at the NCPC asked me to say a few words about the campaign (I affectionately call it, "my career in the media"). Back in 1980 the media team of the NCPC, it's member organization the Crime Prevention Coalition of America, the U.S. Department of Justice, The Advertising Council, and the Saatchi & Saatchi advertising agency, developed yours truly to talk to citizens about how to get involved to reduce crime and violence and strengthen their communities.

They named the effort the National Citizens' Crime Prevention Campaign and soon after the Saatchi agency created yours truly, McGruff the Crime Dog ®, and my internationally known slogan, "Take A Bite Out of Crime®". Since then NCPC and I have embarked on almost twenty-five years of successful public education. Each year NCPC creates PSAs to help create awareness of a crime issue and make all of us aware of how to solve the problem. Together, NCPC and I have educated the American public on issues from neighborhood involvement to child protection. The campaign has messages for different audiences from adults to teens to children. In addition, we also produce messages for Spanish-speaking adults.

The National Citizens' Crime Prevention Campaign has been among the top five Ad Council campaigns for the last decade and holds the all-time record for donated space and airtime. Each tax dollar invested in developing and distributing public service advertising (television, radio, print, and out-of-home) generates between $90 and $100 in advertising space and airtime donated by the nation's mass communications media.
 
In 2002 the Campaign received more than $91.2 million in donated media support. This figure is more than two times the national average of PSA campaigns that generate $30 million a year in donated advertising. Additionally, in the period between 1998-2002, the Campaign experienced record-breaking years of more than $466.2 million in donated media support.
