United for a Stronger America Campaign

In response to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, the National Crime Prevention Council launched a major public service advertising (PSA) campaign in partnership with The Advertising Council, U.S. Department of Justice, and the Crime Prevention Coalition of America.

Americans felt vulnerable after the attacks. But, at the same time they gave of themselves--time, money, food, blood, and some even their lives. Citizens are now asking what they can do to be safe, and what they can do to help others. Thus the PSA campaign has a dual purpose: to allay fear by helping citizens to establish some measure of control, and provide direction for the powerful readiness to contribute and get involved.

Crime, and in this case, terrorism, can isolate us, driving us to huddle alone in fear. But our actions, as citizens of this wonderful country, must be the opposite. We must use the events of September 11, 2001 not to paralyze, but to spur commitment--to our families, our neighbors, to emergency preparedness and to reporting crime. It is a time that calls for passionate civic involvement and connection with others.

It is now time to let citizens know what concrete things Americans can do to respond.
